Here at EXOTICA and FAIRmaid, we go to great lengths to furnish you with high-quality bedding. One of our priorities is durability. With proper care, our bedding can last you many years. Here are our tips on how to take care of your bedding at home.
How often should you wash your bedding?
Bedding should be changed and washed by hand or machine-washed every 7-14 days. This includes bedsheets, pillow cases, duvet covers, and comforters. Whether there may be any stains or not, regularly changing and cleaning your bedding gets rid of dust and dust mites that may cause allergic reactions as well.
How should bedding be washed?
- Wash your bedding with water at lower temperatures. Bedding that are fully microfibre or partially microfibre should avoid warm or hot water temperatures as the heat can be damaging. This includes microfibre fabric of bedsheets, pillowcases, and duvet covers, as well as items with polyester fills such as comforters.
- Do not use bleach. Other intense chemical laundry agents such as detergent, fabric softeners, and stain removers should be dissolved and diluted in water before adding into your washing machine. Intense chemicals may cause damage to the fabric or may discolour the patterns and colouration of the bedding.
- Select low spin cycles and avoid packing in too many items in the washing machine. Washing your bedding with other laundry items with coarser or stiffer fabric, such as denim jeans, may roughen the bedding during the wash and cause pilling.
- It is not recommended to wash lighter-coloured fabrics with darker-coloured fabrics. Dyes from darker fabrics may stain and discolour lighter fabrics while washing.
- Comforters should be washed in large-sized washing machines with a function for comforters. Smaller washing machines are unable to handle the weight and force of comforters during spin cycles, which may cause tears in the comforter or damage the washing machine itself. If you do not have a larger washing machine, it is recommended to wash your comforter at a laundry service instead.
- Zip up (if any) and turn pillowcases, bolster cases, and duvet covers inside out.
How should you dry your bedding?
Dry your bedding in the sun or in a dryer. Avoid strong sunlight as it may cause colours to fade. Ideally select lower temperatures on a dryer and extract your bedding as soon as it is done. High temperatures may cause damage to microfibre bedding or cause creases in the fabric.
How should you iron your bedding?
There is usually no need to iron your bedding. However, if the need arises, bedding with microfibre components or with polyester fills should be ironed at low temperatures.
What else do should you watch out for?
- Contact from dry, cracked skin such as on the palms and soles, and you or your pet’s nails on the bedding may cause pilling on microfibre fabric.
- All types of fabric should not be scraped or brushed with force.
- Bedding that are fully or partially microfibre fabric, or have polyester fill such as comforters, should avoid high temperatures when washing, drying, or ironing.
